Xiaomi has just released a series of new devices globally, although it will be coming to Europe first. Apart from the Xiaomi Smartband 7, there is also the Xiaomi Book S 12.4”. This is the first 2-in-1 tablet from Xiaomi that runs the Windows 11 operating system.

This is indeed not the first tablet that Xiaomi has ever released. There is also the Xiaomi Pad 5 which has interesting specifications in its class, even without the support of a SIM card or GPS. Xiaomi Book S 12.4” is not the next generation, but a new choice for those of you who are looking for a portable desktop computer.

This tablet has a fairly compact appearance thanks to the use of a mobile chipset from Qualcomm. With a thickness of less than 9mm and a weight of 720 grams, it will be heavier when paired with additional accessories. Like the keyboard cover or stylus which is also sold separately.

On the front, this tablet screen measures 12.35 inches with a WQHD + resolution and a 16:10 ratio. Although the refresh rate is still standard at 60Hz, it supports stylus input with 4,096 pressure levels. Protected by Gorilla Glass 3, supports 100% DCI-P3 color, and can be lit with brightness levels up to 500 nits.

At the top, there is a 1080p camera that seems to already support Windows Hello authentication. The body is made of aluminum-magnesium and has a number of ports such as a 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C, and a microSD card slot. There’s also a stereo speaker setup, as well as two microphones supported by Qualcomm’s noise-canceling technology.

The additional keyboard for this tablet has a full-size size and 1.3mm key travel designed for comfortable typing. The touchpad is also made quite wide and supports multi-gesture from Windows 11. It can be attached directly via a magnetic mechanism on the lower body.

For performance matters, this tablet uses a relatively new chipset, namely Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 octa-core 7nm. Qualcomm claims that this chipset has performance equivalent to the 10th generation Intel Core i5. Meanwhile, with Windows 11, users can run non-RAM desktop applications via the integrated X86-64 emulator. It has an 8GB LPDDR4X RAM capacity with 256GB internal storage. While the battery power is claimed to last up to 13.4 hours in one use.

It supports a 65W GaN charger for fast charging, although it’s not included in the sales package. For the price, in Europe, the Xiaomi Book S 12.4 retails for EUR699 or around $736.79. As for the package with the keyboard cover, it costs EUR799 or around $842.20, and the Xiaomi SmartPen stylus costs EUR99.99 or around $105.40.
