Rumors about the existence of the first folding screen smartphone from Vivo have been popping up a lot. And finally, Vivo inaugurated the Vivo X Fold in its home country. The presence of this smartphone marks Vivo as the second brand under the parent company BBK Corp to release a folding screen device. Starting with the OPPO Find N late last year, which has a compact design.

Along with the Vivo X Fold, the company also released two large-screen devices. The two devices are the Vivo X Note and the Vivo Pad. Both have 7-inch and 11-inch screens. This is the first time that Vivo presents the X series in many types.

Folding Mechanism That Lasts Up to 10 Years


The surface of the back of this smartphone uses vegan leather material. Comes in 3 color options, namely light blue, gray, and black. What is new is a very large camera module design with a circle that houses the four camera sensors.

Like the Galaxy Z Fold3, the Vivo X Fold’s folding screen is on the inside. Outside there is a large 6.53-inch E5 OLED screen with full HD + and supports a refresh rate of 120Hz. The ratio is 21:9 with 3D curves on the left and right sides. You will see a large 8.03 inch E5 OLED LTPO2 when you open this smartphone. The glass material uses Schott’s Ultra-Thin Glass which incidentally is also the manufacturer of the UTG for Samsung. One of the special things about this smartphone is that the outer and inner screens are integrated with the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Vivo also ensures that the hinge on their first folding smartphone is durable. Using aircraft-grade materials, this part has passed the due diligence test from TUV Rheinland. At least hold up to 300 thousand times the process of opening and closing. A minimum of 10 years of use with 80 opening and closing times per day.

For performance, this smartphone uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with 12GB RAM and 256/512GB memory options. Vivo also embeds a special SPU, namely hardware to increase security. With a 4,600 mAh battery, this smartphone can be fully charged in just 37 minutes. This is thanks to the support for 66W fast charging (+ 50W wireless charging).

The camera lens uses ZEISS technology with a T* coating that can reduce light reflections. The main sensor is the Samsung ISOCELL GN1 50MP f/1.75 with OIS, similar to the X70 Pro+ and Pixel 6 series. Other sensors consist of 48MP Ultra-wide, 12MP portrait 2x Zoom, and 8MP periscope with 5x optical zoom OIS. In addition to lens integration, ZEISS also improves a number of shooting modes such as Texture Portrait, Super Night Scene to Nature Color. As for the front camera and the camera embedded in the main screen, it uses a punch-hole type with a resolution of 16MP. The Vivo X Fold is also optimized to run multiple apps at once, including a special camera mode that helps users take pictures at waist height. The folding mechanism is made flexible, and can be fixed at 60 – 120 degrees.

For the price, the Vivo X Fold is priced at CNY8,999or around $1413.12 for the 256GB memory variant. As for the 512GB memory variant, it is priced at CNY9,999or around $1570.15. The price is relatively cheap when compared to existing competitors. This smartphone is only available in China and there is still no information regarding its availability in other countries.
