Comes with a new design, the Sony WH-1000XM5 is a complete improvement, although not much improved from the previous generation. The previous generation has arguably the best noise-canceling quality for wireless headphones. Through the Sony WH-1000XM5, the number of microphones in it is increased and there is an artificial intelligence capability.

Comes in two options, the headband is designed to be slimmer than before and can be extended. The earcup looks sleeker, but it can’t be folded, it can only be turned forward. So it’s not as practical as before when you want to hang it around your neck. The case size is larger, although also slimmer.

These headphones use recycled plastic materials from automotive parts and no plastic in the box. The earcups are made of more comfortable leather, using synthetic materials. Utilizing two special processors, these headphones are equipped with 8 microphones, plus an NC Optimizer that works automatically to detect the sound around the user. There is also a Speak-to-Chat feature that works automatically when the user wants to talk. When sound is detected, the music will stop automatically and ambient sound mode will turn on.

For control, you can use tap and swipe gestures to control music and volume. As for access to ANC and ambient mode, you can use a special button. You can use the Quick Access feature to access Spotify, with 2 to 3 taps. That way, you don’t have to access the application from a smartphone.

Bringing Bluetooth 5.2 support, you can connect the Sony WH-1000XM5 to more than one device at once. The battery is claimed to last 30 hours with ANC and 40 hours without ANC. Not only that, but these headphones also support USB Power Delivery, 3 minutes to listen to music for 3 hours.

For the convenience of calling, the Sony WH-1000XM5 uses the QN1 processor from the previous generation and the V1 from the WF-1000XM4. Voice Pickup technology uses four microphones and a combination of AI to isolate and minimize wind noise. So that the other person can hear the user’s voice more clearly.

These headphones are claimed to be able to provide better audio quality, even though the dimensions of the driver are reduced from 40mm to 30mm. especially in the mid and high frequencies, considering that previously claimed to be strong in the bass section. To provide a clearer surround sound effect, the Sony WH-1000XM5 comes with 360 Reality Audio effects. For the price, the Sony WH-1000XM5 retails for $399.99. Pre-orders start on May 20, 2022.
