Samsung is back to enlivening the foldable smartphone market by presenting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. Carrying a design that is almost similar to its predecessor, where the smartphone body is made compact so that it is easy to fit in a pocket and carry anywhere. Even though it is compact, its performance is still reliable in supporting the daily activities of users.

The smartphone feels very small when folded even though it does become a little thick. But it makes this smartphone easier when it goes into a small pocket or bag. Having a Gorilla Glass Victus-coated glass makes this smartphone free from even thin scratches. With a design that is not much different from its predecessor, it seems that Samsung wants to focus on increasing durability. Using an aluminum armor frame material plus IPX8 certification, making this smartphone safe from water. Want to open this smartphone with two hands or with one hand, it’s fine, it doesn’t feel so frail.

In addition to being available in bright color variants, the Phantom Black color variant can be a more dirty-free alternative because it uses a matte surface. If you are still afraid, original case accessories from Samsung can also provide additional protection and look cool.

Screen

Carrying a Cover Screen is four times larger than its predecessor, 1.9 inches to be precise, and uses a Super AMOLED panel. Feels easier when viewing incoming notifications without needing to open the inner screen. The screen on the outer body can also be used as a viewfinder when the camera is active. Can take photos and record videos directly from the Cover Screen. This is possible because of the Quick Shot feature that has been developed from the previous generation. Simply by pressing the power button twice, you can see the resulting display from the dual camera.

No need to worry about being scratched, the Gorilla Glass Victus coating is able to prevent that from happening. And of course, the 6.7-inch screen inside is superior which now supports a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. For the top and bottom split screen is also convenient thanks to the high ratio. But when watching videos, the black border on the left and right is thicker. Meanwhile, if it is made full screen, the film with a ratio of 16: 9 will be very cut off.

Camera

Comes with two camera sensors, namely the main sensor and an ultra-wide-angle sensor, each with a 12MP resolution. can record videos up to 4K 60fps resolution and has full features. The selfie camera still uses a punch-hole design and has not been under-displayed with a resolution of 10MP. for the quality of the camera can be relied on in all lighting conditions. The color tones of the two camera sensors are quite consistent even though in some conditions it becomes warmer.

Runs One Ui 3.1.1 based on Android 11 with some extra features including Flax Mode. This smartphone is quite comfortable for multitasking and supports other productivity. Because of the long screen, running two applications is more convenient and video calls via Google Duo also feel more comfortable. Samsung really thought of various types of applications that are suitable to use when the fold is open about 90 degrees. Until the camera application where the viewfinder can be adjusted will be placed in the upper half or lower half of the screen area. The stereo speakers are also quite okay, plus the volume buttons that intelligently “reverse” the position so that even if they are open or closed, the volume up and down placement is still the same.

Although the design is small, it does not mean that the performance of this smartphone is not strong. Using the Snapdragon 888 chipset which is the best in 2021. Combined with 8GB RAM capacity and 128/256GB internal storage. Overall there are no problems when browsing applications or playing heavy games. But under certain conditions, the body of this smartphone can be very hot. When making Zoom calls, using mobile data, connecting to TWS, and being in outdoor cafes, the body can get very hot. Especially in the upper fold, around the camera or just making it a mobile hotspot. This fast smartphone certainly has certain limitations. Therefore, its use must be maintained. For the record, this smartphone is not yet equipped with Samsung DeX. While the Link to Windows feature for accessing applications directly from a PC, still exists.

Battery

For the battery, this smartphone has a battery capacity of 3,300 mAh. This is a relatively cute battery for a flagship smartphone in 2021. Almost on par with the iPhone which is indeed much more power-efficient in terms of OS and hardware. It takes extra effort such as turning off the high refresh rate or activating the power-saving mode. Charging is only limited to 15W. This is really unfortunate, considering that there are now many entry-level smartphones that can reach 18W. Charging for 30 minutes still only adds about 40% charge. Meanwhile, to fully charge it takes about 90 minutes. It’s wasteful, yes, but not too extravagant either.

Conclusion

This smartphone is perfect for creating content thanks to the versatility of its camera. However, it is also suitable for those of you who want to spend a lot of time using a smartphone. The foldable screen is large and convenient for watching videos or running two applications at once. This is a pretty satisfying smartphone with its premium and futuristic folding screen design. Except for the battery which is not suitable for those of you who want to use your smartphone constantly throughout the day. For those of you who are interested, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G sells for $1058.87 for the 8/128GB variant. While for the 8/256GB variant, it sells for $1129.47.
