Recently, Logitech announced its collaboration with Tencent to develop handheld consoles based on cloud gaming. This console will be similar to Nintendo Switch or Stream Deck. This console is planned to be available at the end of 2022. Although it does not yet have an official name, this Logitech and Tencent collaboration hardware will be referred to as “Logitech G Gaming Handheld”. Citing the official statement, this console will combine Logitech’s hardware development expertise and Tencent’s software experience.

Later, gamers can play a number of cloud-based game titles. Therefore, both companies refer to this device as a cloud gaming handheld. Additionally, the console will support Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia’s GeForce Now service. The two companies are also working with Microsoft and Nvidia on the development of this device.

In terms of design, this handheld will be more like a Stream Deck and a PSP or PS Vita. So, none of the controller parts can be removed from the screen like the Joycon on the Nintendo Switch. “As someone who grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere was a joy. And we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on,” said Desai. If Logitech is serious enough to realize this plan, it is likely that this device will be available by the end of 2022.

Logitech G general manager, Ujesh Desai said, “As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations. Tencent Games is at the forefront of innovation and that is why we are partnering with them.”

In 2020, Tencent has registered a patent for its handheld gaming design. However, it is not known why they did not continue the project. Even though the Nintendo Switch is still the single player in the handheld gaming market.
