Apple is reportedly already planning a successor to the 2020 iPhone SE, which is currently called iPhone SE 3. Reportedly, the iPhone will be launched in the first half of 2022. The smartphone will use the A14 Bionic chip, just like the iPhone 12.

Rumors about the iPhone SE 3 came from DigiTimes. The report follows a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who last month said the iPhone SE 3 will have a new processor and 5G support.

DigiTimes cites industry sources as saying Apple has created a new business called chip probing specialist. Chip probing is a quality testing process, and this process will be carried out by Xintec. Xintec itself is a subsidiary of TSMC, a chip manufacturer which is a partner of Apple. Xintec has been working closely with Apple for a long time because it is a component supplier for the original iPhone SE and iPhone SE 2020.

Kuo said that the iPhone SE 3 will be the cheapest 5G iPhone. And is expected to boost Apple’s position in the 5G smartphone market. For information, Apple first launched the iPhone SE in 2016 as an entry-level smartphone. In 2020, the iPhone SE was relaunched with a bigger screen, a new design, and the A13 Bionic chipset just like the iPhone 11. It features a Touch ID and a Home button.

Based on the rumors circulating, the next-generation iPhone SE will not bring significant changes. What’s new is the A14 Bionic chipset and 5G support. Reportedly, Apple will present a punch-hole screen design for the iPhone SE in 2023.
