Finally, Apple has released iOS 14.5. Apple released iOS 14.6 just a month after releasing iOS 14.5. Even though the update is smaller, iOS 14.6 still brings many changes. from lossless audio for Apple Music subscribers to tracking AirTags lost. Just like the previous update, iOS 14.6 supports devices from the iPhone 6s and above and the iPod touch 7th generation.
Apart from the new features, iOS 14.6 also brings several fixes and security enhancements. Through this update, Apple has fixed several problems. These include Apple Watch that can’t unlock iPhone, reminders not showing, iPhone performance drops, and Bluetooth problems during phone calls.
iOS 14.6 Features
Although not as big as iOS 14.5, this update brings two new features that Apple previously announced at its event in April.
1. Apple Card Family
This feature allows Apple Card users to share with five family members (aged 13 years and over) in the Family Sharing group. With this feature, families can track and manage expenses with the option to add controls and restrictions.
2. Apple Podcasts Subscription
Apple Podcast users can now subscribe to access exclusive features and benefits. This includes listening to podcasts without ads, accessing additional content, and early access to new podcast series. Apple also overhauled the Podcasts app by adding features such as marking all played episodes, restoring old episodes, and removing downloads.
3. Tracking a Lost AirTag
If a user loses their AirTag, the person who finds it can use the iPhone or other NFC-enabled device to view the user’s phone number and call it. Apple added an option for users of AirTag to enter an email address.
4. Lossless Audio
Apple Music customers will be able to activate lossless audio or Dolby Atmos once these two features launch next month. After the official release, Apple Music users can try streaming high-quality music at no additional cost.
How to Update
If your iPhone is included in a supported device, you should get a notification that iOS 14.6 is available and will be asked to install it. However, if the notification doesn’t appear, you can update manually it in the following ways:
- Make sure it is connected to an internet network (Wifi)
- Press Settings
- Press General
- After that, press Software Update
- After the iOS information is available, press Download and Install
- Follow the instructions that appear and wait for the process
- Done, iOS 14.6 is already installed on your iPhone
