About 2 to 3 years ago, smartphones with pop-up cameras were quite busy in the market. Although now there are many smartphones with futuristic folding screen designs. However, this does not mean that smartphone manufacturers will not re-release smartphones with the pop-up camera mechanism. One of the smartphone manufacturers that re-released smartphones with pop-up cameras is Huawei. Huawei released a similar smartphone through its mid-range series, namely the Huawei Nova Y9a in South Africa.

Smartphones with pop-up cameras do have their own charms and advantages. In addition to looking sophisticated, the camera can go up and down automatically. Smartphone vendors can release smartphones with full-screen displays. Smartphones become hassle-free from waterdrop notch and punch-hole types though. But that doesn’t mean smartphones with pop-up camera mechanisms don’t have drawbacks. Such as being more susceptible to physical impact and making smartphones unable to have an IP rating certification. Given that the Huawei Nova Y9a comes at a relatively affordable price, the last factor is not a problem.

This smartphone has a thickness of 8.95mm and weighs about 197 grams. Comes in three different color options and a rear body that has a 3D curve. The fingerprint sensor is on the right side of the body. The fingerprint sensor still cannot be integrated into the screen, considering that the panel used is still IPS. It has a fairly large dimension, which is 6.63 inches with full HD + without a high refresh rate. Even so, the body is relatively small thanks to the thin bezels and the absence of a notch. Provide up to 92% screen-to-body ratio.

The front camera is stored in a pop-up module at the top right of the body. The front camera has a resolution of 16MP. While on the back there are four different sensors surrounded by a large black circle-shaped module. The four camera sensors consist of, 64MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle, and two 2MP sensors with very general functions. Maximum video recording is only up to 1080p, but that’s with EIS.

Present as a mid-range smartphone, the chipset used is the same as the Galaxy A32. Where the Huawei Nova Y9a runs the Helio G80 Octa-core chipset from MediaTek. Paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. if it is still lacking, there is an external slot of the type NM card that supports capacities up to 256GB, not a microSD. This smartphone also runs EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10. It’s two generations behind, but that’s not a big deal. Because this smartphone comes without Google services. So the application can only be obtained through the application store of its own design (AppGallery) and third parties via Petal Search.

The battery capacity of this smartphone is 4,300 mAh. But the charging is very fast and can reach 70% in just 30 minutes. This is thanks to the support for Huawei SuperCharge 40W. Prime in South Africa, this smartphone retails for ZAR6,499 or around $421.20. In the future, this smartphone will be present in the Middle East and Central Asian markets.
