Currently, the Apple company is developing a folding screen iPhone that has a size of 8 inches. Using an OLED panel and QHD + resolution. According to the prediction of Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this folding screen iPhone will launch in 2023. Kuo said the Apple company may cooperate with Samsung as an exclusive supplier of flexible OLED displays. However, Kuo did not disclose any specs or design details.

Based on the production capacity plan that Apple requested, Kuo predicts Apple will sell 15 to 20 million units of foldable iPhone by 2023. He predicts that folding-screen phones will be offered by all major cellphone vendors and become a must-have product. The existence of folding-screen phones can also encourage a “super replacement cycle” for high-end phones.

“We predict that folding screen devices will blur the segmentation between smartphones, tablets, and laptops in the future. With a cross-product ecosystem and hardware design excellence, Apple will be the biggest winner in the foldable display device trend. ” Said, Kuo.

Kuo believes the foldable iPhone will use the “Silver nanowire touch” solution for its screen. This will provide Apple with a long-term advantage in the foldable-screen phone market. This technology will be needed for folding screen devices that have more than one fold. Apple companies are already using Silver nanowire technology for the touch interface in HomePod smart speakers. So, they have mastered this technology even at a lower cost and smaller production volume, said Kuo.

This isn’t the first time Kuo has spread rumors about a foldable iPhone. Last March, he said Apple planned to release a foldable iPhone with a screen size of 7.5 to 8 inches by 2023. But at that time, Kuo said the launch schedule depended on how Apple resolves critical technology issues and mass production.

According to Kuo, Apple Company has not officially started the development of a foldable iPhone. However, they have already started exploring by asking Foxconn to produce two prototypes with different designs.
